Position:  Certified Instructional Aide - 180 student school days. We offer an extensive benefit package.

              

Basic Function:

 

The Certified Instructional Aide assists the special education department by supporting the special education students in need of services. The aide works with the special education teacher and regular education teachers in providing appropriate learning experiences for students. This individual may supplement instruction given by the teacher and assists in the delivery of specially designed educational, physical and /or health related services or other supports as deemed necessary in the student’s IEP. Certified Instructional Aides also support the day-to-day activities in each school building, such as supervising lunch and/or recess, assisting in bus arrival or dismissal duties, monitoring hallways or exit areas before and/or after school, etc.

 

Aide assignments will be made by the building principal and Director of Special Education.

 

Terms of Employment:

 

Student Calendar Days (180), Act 80 days as determined by administration, and 20 additional hours of annual training as scheduled by the special education department. This position is not eligible for membership in any collective bargaining unit. This position reports to and is evaluated annually by the Principal in the building where assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  

Certified Instructional aides must have at least 2 years of post-secondary study, OR possess an Associate’s Degree or higher degree, OR meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through State assessment for the purposes of attaining the Highly Qualified Status Certificate. This certification process must be completed within 30 days of initial employment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

This individual must possess strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. This individual should have excellent oral and written communication skills. Certified Instructional Aides should possess compassion and empathy for students as well as a high level of social sensitivity and clear understanding of the need for confidentiality in all communications.
